Nipawin’s Tad Kozun is returning to the Nipawin Hawks to be an assistant coach.

Kozun played 147 games for the Hawks from 2011 to 2014, totalling 79 goals and 68 assists.

“It’s a great honour to be back in a position that I’m comfortable with and moving back home to start my next chapter,” Kozun said. “This is where I kickstarted my career. The Hawks organization gave me a lot when I was here. This team meant so much to me and has meant so much to the community of Nipawin.”

Kozun led the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League during the 2013-14 season with 38 goals.

Doug Johnson, Hawks head coach and general manager, was Kozun’s coach when he played for Nipawin.

“I know what Doug expects out of the guys,” Kozun said. “I know what he’s bringing to the table so I will complement him as much as I can. I think I can help players out with my experience.”

Kozun has no coaching experience and most recently played in the ECHL with the Orlando Solar Bears.

“This is a different role, but I’m trying to help give back,” Kozun said. “I’m really excited. It will be nice to be able to relax and stay home and settle in. It will be good to hopefully get back to normal here and put on a show for all the fans. I know everybody is ready to get out of their houses and enjoy some social activity.”
