Muenster set to host U13 AA Tier 1 provincials next weekend

Provincial baseball is back in Muenster next weekend.

Muenster will host the U13 AA Tier 1 provincial championships from July 23 to July 25. Baseball provincials in Saskatchewan haven’t been held since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Muenster’s U13 AA coach Derek Rude says players, coaches and parents are excited to bring baseball provincials back to the baseball crazed community.

“We like to host at least one provincials every year, or at least every other year,” Rude said. “And of course some of the funds that we raise through those provincials, we put back into our facilities here to keep them updated.”

The U13 AA Red Sox won the provincials last time they were played in 2019 and Rude says they’ve got another very competitive team. Everyone is encouraged to come watch.

“It’s really good baseball,” he said. “These kids are 12 and 13 years old, but they play the game at a very high level. So, yeah, it’s really entertaining baseball.”

In addition to the Muenster Red Sox, teams are coming from Humboldt, Tisdale, Unity, Weyburn, Watrous, Melville, and Prince Albert to compete for the provincial crown.

Games begin on Friday at 2 p.m. in Muenster and the final will be played on Sunday, likely around 3 p.m.
