Courtney Tremblay becomes first-ever Tisdale Trojans female coach

Sep 10, 2021 | 10:01 AM

Courtney Tremblay, former coach for the Regina Rebels AAA U18 hockey team, recently joined the Tisdale Trojans as one of their assistant coaches.

With this hiring, Tremblay becomes the first female coach in the team’s history; a badge she is honoured to wear.

However, she hopes that she is just the first of many.

Another thing that makes this hiring so unique is that the Trojans weren’t actually even actively seeking out anyone at the time.

When Tremblay approached them about potentially working with them, they knew it was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

“I reached out to the Trojans and out of curiosity, asked them if they needed any help and went and interviewed with Dennis (Kubat, Head Coach of the Tisdale Trojans) and got accepted right in pretty quickly.”

And as far as how Tremblay went from coaching in Regina to now coaching in Tisdale, she said, “I recently moved to Melfort to be closer to home/family and didn’t know if I would be able to find a team.”

Safe to say she has found a team that she is very excited to join and one that she already feels quite comfortable with.

“As far as coaching with the guys, they’ve been really great so far and I’ve learned a lot from them. I’m actually more comfortable coaching guys because I’m used to that environment.”

Tremblay has three brothers and no sisters, and she is used to hanging out with her dad a lot, she said. She plays ball hockey for fun and spends a lot of time at the rink.

When looking towards the season with the Trojans and what Tremblay expects as a coach, especially when coming off a pandemic, she immediately thought of two things.

“We’re all on the same boat and all on the same playing field, so I feel a lot less behind when coming here new, especially with all the players that are coming in new as well.”

“I’m super excited for the first couple of games and I’ve honestly never seen a group so excited to be back on the ice. The hunger is definitely there.”
