Innovations in Agriculture Workshops

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Southern Alberta farmers, agronomists, and industry leaders will be asked for input on direct agriculture research priorities in collaboration with Farming Smarter Association and a series of workshops designed to capture regional needs.

Those who become involved will be able to communicate what they see as the research and innovation that can most help the southern Alberta farming community. Farming Smarter executive director, Ken Coles, says farming has changed drastically over the past 10 years and innovation is the driver.

“Innovation is hard and about long-term results, so we want to provide a venue for us to share our research, talk about the future of farming and get grassroots input into directions for research.”

“We have some pretty well-thought-out concepts, but we also are looking for insight from the community on how to best tackle their issues, answer their questions on how to innovate and just open up the conversation on what they need to know about the future of farming,” says Coles

The “Innovation in Agriculture – Challenges and the Path Forward” is a full-day workshop to explore possible areas of needed research and fine tune the directions that will most help regional agricultural producers succeed.

The farming public will have the opportunity to take advantage of one of four workshops at four different locations, or a virtual workshop. Each day-long discussion and networking opportunity, will run from 9-am, to 3-pm on the following dates:

• October 27 – Sandman Signature Lodge, Lethbridge
• November 2 – Heritage Inn, Brooks
• November 4 – Heritage Inn, Taber
• November 9 – Foremost Community Center
