Melfort Kin install play structure at Melfort campground

A new play structure recently went up at the Melfort campground.

Members of the Melfort Kinsmen and Kinette clubs installed the equipment worth $40,000 on Oct. 16.

Although the structure is up, it is not quite yet ready for play according to Kinsmen and park committee member Chad Fedorychka.

“There are a few finishing touches left to go on the park, but it will be ready for next year,” Fedorychka said. “As soon as the campground opens for the season, we are hoping it will be ready for everyone to use and enjoy.”

This campground play structure is one of many Kinsmen playgrounds throughout the community.

“Green space and enhancing our community have always been something that the Kinsmen do as a club so this is one more space for the community to enjoy,” Fedorychka said.

The two clubs installed a play structure on the north end of Melfort just over two years ago.

The campground is located on the south end of Melfort off Highway 41.

Members of the Kinsmen club are also busy with working on their clubhouse which is the former Mefort Chamber building at Spruce Haven.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Kinsmen have had to cancel their annual Robert Henning Memorial Rooster hockey tournament as well as Spookarama events for another year.

The club will look to the weekend of Nov. 4 to 6 in 2022 for the return of the tournament, dine and dance.

Anyone interested in getting involved with the Melfort Kinsmen or Kinettes are encouraged to get in touch with the clubs on Facebook or by reaching out to one of their members.

The Kinette Club is in the midst of their Flocking Fundraiser but the flock will take a break over the winter when the ground freezes.

The Kinsmen meet on the first Monday of each month while the Kinettes meet the second Tuesday of each month.
