Finding Urgency

Mustangs looking for more urgency in upcoming weekend

Nov 12, 2021 | 10:02 AM

The Melfort Mustangs are getting set for a weekend set of games, looking to string together a couple of wins.

Melfort hasn’t been able to win since their southern road swing on Oct. 15 and 16 against Estevan and Weyburn, a span of seven games where the Mustangs have gone 2-4-1-0.

“We’re leaving way too many points on the table on nights that we should be able to close games out,” said Mustangs assistant coach Trevor Logan. “And we need to find that as a group to be able to find a sense of urgency early on [in games].”

As for how to start finding a bit more urgency, Logan said it comes from the guys that are putting on the jersey every night.

“It’s something that’s got to come from internally,” Logan said. “The boys have to find it themselves and they’ve got to realize there’s a little bit of a deficiency there and it’s up to them at the end of the day, we can say all we want, but it’s up to them to do it.”

Upcoming for the Melfort Mustangs this weekend is a road meeting with the Flin Flon Bombers on Friday, Nov. 12 and a home meeting with the Yorkton Terriers on Saturday, Nov. 13.

Flin Flon is 12-6-0-0 on the season, but the Mustangs did recently grab a 7-3 win against the Bombers on Nov. 3. It’ll be the fourth meeting of the year between the Sherwood Divsion clubs with Melfort holding a 2-1 series lead to this point.

Heading into the weekend, Yorkton is 7-10-0-1 on the season. It will be the second meeting of the season between the Mustangs and Terriers. Melfort won the first meeting in Yorkton 5-3 back in September.

Puck drop for both games in 7:30 p.m., and Friday’s game can be heard on 105CJVR with Mat Barrett.
