Naicam, St. Brieux to host 2A Senior Girls Volleyball Provincials

Nov 17, 2021 | 4:00 PM

The 2A Senior Girls Volleyball Provincials are set to come to Naicam and St. Brieux, this weekend.

The provincials, which were supposed to happen in these towns last year, got postponed due to the pandemic, but are now making their long-awaited arrival Nov. 19 and 20.

Cora Andreas, tournament organizer and assistant coach with the Naicam team told northeastNOW it’s relieving to get to this point, where they know the tournament will actually be held.

“It’s super nice, we practiced all last year, getting ready for provincials and they didn’t happen, but at least this year we’ve been to tournaments every weekend and we knew that we’d actually be able to host, we actually even hosted conferences,” Andreas said. “It’s super exciting and motivating to be able to play for a championship at home.”

And the team from Naicam isn’t just here because they are hosting, they earned their way to the number one seed, by winning both their conferences and their regionals, something they are very proud of.

For the Grade 12’s on the team this year, Andreas mentioned it was extra special this year for them, as it will be their last opportunity to play and the team wanted to win, to give them a good send-off.

Andreas also said the community and school support has been an extra factor in enhancing that, especially when hosting this event.

“We’ve had really good family support, from everyone really. All the grades are coming to watch, our art classes have even made posters for the tournament, everyone is pretty excited and pumped up, ready to go,” Andreas added.

“It’s really big, we’ve relied a lot on our staff members to help, we got a whole crew. The kids are excited, even if they aren’t on the team, we’ve had no shortage of people to volunteer. They will help clean, work the canteen, we even had some alumni coming back to score keep and lines, kind of like a reunion to come and help us out, it’s exciting.”

As far as what Andreas is currently thinking, however, just days ahead of the tournament, she said she is just hoping for a good result and that everyone arrives safe and enjoys their time in both Naicam and St. Brieux.

“I just hope everyone plays up to their potential and has fun and hopefully, the weather stays good, so everyone can travel safely and the kids can have a fun weekend of volleyball.”
