Mustangs back on home ice, ready for second straight meeting with Bruins

Dec 1, 2021 | 9:53 AM

The Melfort Mustangs are back on home ice for their next four games starting on Dec. 1 as they host the Estevan Bruins.

It’s a quick turnaround for the Mustangs who just saw the Bruins on Saturday. The Bruins saw the Nipawin Hawks on Tuesday, Nov. 30 as their only game in between their last meeting with the Mustangs.

Forward Nolan Doell will look to continue his scorching hot stretch in his first few games with the Mustangs after been traded to the club from La Ronge. The 20-year-old had three goals this past weekend and said a lot of credit goes to his linemates Seth McCulloch and Ben Tkachuk who he’s formed some chemistry with early.

“They’re two very good hockey players,” Doell said. “So, it comes easy playing with those guys.”

The Mustangs are currently 13-7-1-4 on the season and sit fifth in the SJHL. However, they have lost their last three, all coming in shootouts. Doell said while the shootouts have been a killer for them, they’re working their way through it.

“It’s a little bit frustrating, shootouts, it is what it is,” he said. “But we’ve been working on some things and it’ll be a different turnaround here on Wednesday.”

The Bruins beat the Hawks on Tuesday 6-0 and are now 19-5-1-1 on the season.
