Parent Billet Weekend

Mustangs excited for parent billet weekend, but focused on task at hand

Dec 3, 2021 | 10:00 AM

It’s a big weekend upcoming for the Melfort Mustangs as they hold their annual parent billet weekend on Dec. 3 and 4.

It’ll be the first time in two years the Mustangs have had their parent billet weekend. Captain Ben Tkachuk said there’s fond memories of the weekend from his rookie season and everyone in the room is excited, but they’ve got to remain focused.

“It’s a fun weekend overall,” Tkachuk said. “The main thing for us is that we can’t get distracted with all the extra curriculars and just stay focused on our game and play a hard 60 minutes for our families, and it’ll be a fun weekend.”

It’s a big weekend on the ice as well as the Mustangs are looking to snap a four game losing skid, which includes Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to the Estevan Bruins, a game the Mustangs felt they played a complete 60 minutes. Tkachuk said that still remains the focus.

“For us it’s just playing a full 60 minutes of completed defence and I think we’ll be fine,” he said.

On tap for the Mustangs is a Friday night meeting against the Yorkton Terriers for Teddy Bear Toss night, and then a battle with the Melville Millionaires on Saturday.

Melfort is currently 13-8-1-4, good for fifth place in the SJHL.
