Outback Thunder hold Annual General Meeting

May 1, 2019 | 5:00 PM

After a tough year on the ice, things are looking up for the Carrot River Outback Thunder Junior B Hockey Club.

The team held its Annual General Meeting on Monday, April 29, and according to President Dean Hardie, a big topic of conversation is trying to bring more players to Carrot River.

“We’re going to explore some options here possibly with some Junior A teams to see if we can be a farm team,” Hardie said. “We’re going to try and have a younger team and just try and get some more kids to come to Carrot River and enjoy the game.”

Even after going 6-33-0-1 on the season in the Prairie Junior Hockey League, missing the playoffs, and making changes throughout, they did see some positives.

“I think we’re on the upwards swing,” Hardie said, “We lost a lot of players, we had a coaching change, a general manager change. I think everything is looking brighter for our future. Honestly, I am very excited about the upcoming year.”

Luke Folk was hired mid-season as the new head coach of the Thunder, and Brennan Hall was also hired as general manager. Hardie said after Folk was hired behind the bench, they did see some good things coming from the team. He said that after playing with the Thunder in his junior days, Folk wants to bring what he had with the Thunder back to the team now.

“He’s come in with a lot of new energy, and ideas,” Hardie said. “He just wants to get kids out to play.”

Hardie added even with the down year on the ice, the support from not only the fans, but the sponsors was still very good. He encouraged the fans to go support the team and embrace the kids that are coming into the community.

Hardie said the team will have nine board members for the coming season.
