John Michael "Jack" Miller
Posted Dec 16, 2021 | 11:17 AM
John Michael Miller was born in Melfort on July 8, 1950 to parents Martin and Dorothy Miller. As the third of six siblings (Barbara, Barry, Bill, Rob, Lori & Judy) he had an active childhood on the family farm in the Resource district. Jack’s first seven years of school were at the Jones country school, followed by Grades 8-12 at MCCI and MUCC in Melfort.
After graduation, Jack worked for a short while at the mine in Snow Lake, Manitoba. When he returned to Melfort, Jack began his electrical apprenticeship with Nabe Electric. He eventually received his Journeyman electrician’s ticket and also worked for Prestie Electric and Mel-City Electric.
On July 8, 1978 he married his one true love, Joanne Woolsey. Joni, as he called her, brought a lot of joy and excitement into his life. They raised their children, Jani and Michael, in Melfort while running a successful business they started – Miller Electric. In 2007 they moved, along with their business, to live at Candle Lake full time. There, they enjoyed lake life and Jack continued on with the electrical business until 2019. Jack’s favourite hobby was work, as he always enjoyed his career and the people he met through contracting. He was professional, knowledgeable and meticulous in whatever task he took on. But he did also have a lot of fun curling, ski-dooing, camping and fishing. There were many family camping trips, fishing trips, and campfires. In his younger years his pride and joy (and his courting car) was a 1971 Mach 1 Mustang. In his later years, he enjoyed walks with his dog Jake, northern fishing trips with friends and family, quad rides, and visiting with everyone around the lake.
Jack was predeceased by his father Martin (1997), his mother Dorothy (2003), his wife Joanne (2014), and his brother Barry (2017)
He will be dearly missed by those he is survived by: His daughter Jani (Jeff) Goudy and their children Annah, Caleb, Matthew, Elizabeth, Keziah, Micah; and his son Michael (Becky) Miller and their children Elijah and Samuel; as well as his sister Barbara, brother Bill (Judy), brother Rob (Carol), sister Lori (Roy Uzelman), and sister Judy (Nevin Pfaltzgraff), and their families.
