Cumberland and Parkland College coalition has board members appointed

May 6, 2019 | 4:48 PM

A new board of governors has been appointed for the new coalition between Cumberland and Parkland Colleges.

In October, an announcement stated the school would join together in a coalition. They will remain separate schools, but share the same chief executive officer, and a governance structure.

On the board are three members from the former Cumberland College board; Corinna Stevenson (Melfort), Lori Kidney (Tisdale), and Marcel Head (Shoal Lake). They are joined by three former Parkland College board members; Raymond Sass (Yorkton), Wendy Becenko (Kamsack), and Brian Hicke (Melville).

Stevenson and Sass were appointed as co-chairs after being the chairs of their respective former boards. Stevenson said the opportunity to work as a new board is a unique one.

“We are developing and working together as a new board to identify some outcomes and objectives for our own coalition,” Stevenson told northeastNOW. “As well as to sort of outline and evaluate the coalition in terms of potential future direction for the rest of the college sector.”

She added the coalition itself has been an incredible experience.

“It’s always exciting and challenging to design something new,” Stevenson said. “But we’ve worked with a common purpose and goal. We’re really pleased with the success we’ve had so far.”

Stevenson said the board’s first order of business will be to hire a new CEO, and they are already in the interview process for that. The colleges hope to have a permanent CEO in place by June 30.
