Mustangs, Terriers first round series shifts to Yorkton

Mar 22, 2022 | 2:26 PM

The Melfort Mustangs and Yorkton Terriers are now in a best of five to advance to the SJHL’s second round of the playoffs.

This after the first two games of the series were split in Melfort by scores of 4-1 for Melfort and 4-3 for Yorkton in overtime. Things have now shifted to Yorkton where games three and four will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mustang forward Noah Wilson said there’s a bit of a reset after splitting games one and two, but they’re trying to treat this road trip as normal as they can.

“Lots of excitement continuing the series,” he said. “And we’re prepped and ready to go.”

The double overtime affair on Saturday, March 19 saw the Mustangs comeback from a 3-1 deficit in the game, but ultimately lose. Goalie Joel Favreau was excellent in the game stopping 54 of 58 in nearly 90 minutes of ice time. He also won his last three starts in the regular season since returning from injury.

“Unreal. He’s been unbelieveable since we’ve had him back,” Wilson said. “And we’ve got nothing but trust in him.”

Favreay sports a .942 save percentage heading into game three, the best in the playoffs through two games.

Game three goes Tuesday night at 7:30 and you can hear all the action on 105 CJVR with Mat Barrett.
