Seven North Central players taken in 2019 SJHL Draft

A handful of players from the North Central Saskatchewan region were taken in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Bantam Draft Friday, May 31 in Nipawin.

A total of seven local 2004-born players were taken.

Round One – Second Overall – Nicholas Andrusiak (Tisdale, Sask.)

The first local was taken off the board very quickly as defenceman Nicholas Andrusiak was drafted by the Melville Millionaires. In 31 games for the Northeast Wolfpack Bantam AA squad, he tallied six goals and 24 assists.

Round One – Sixth Overall – Kylynn Olafson (Lanigan, Sask.)

The next local to be off the board was Kylynn Olafson out of Lanigan, who was drafted by the Flin Flon Bombers. Olafson was the captain of the Humboldt Broncos Bantam AA team and tallied 36 points in 26 games. He spent six games with the Midget AA squad in Humboldt as well, notching two points in eight games. He was also a seventh round pick of the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL Draft.

Round One – 9th Overall – Connor Hvidston (Tisdale, Sask.)

The Melfort Mustangs were the third team to take a North Central player. Connor Hvidston led the Northeast Wolfpack Bantam AA team with 27 goals and 30 assists for 57 points in 30 games this season. He was also in the top 10 of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League (SBAAHL) in scoring. He was also a seventh round pick of the Swift Current Broncos.

Round Two – 18th Overall – Parker Lalonde (Aberdeen, Sask.)

The Estevan Bruins decided in the second round to draft a North Central talent, taking Parker Lalonde who spent the 2018/2019 season with the Warman Wildcats of the SBAAHL. He tallied 50 points in 31 games for the Wildcats. He was also taken by the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL Draft.

Round Four – 37th Overall – Caden Drury (Carrot River, Sask.)

The first pick in round four belonged to the Battlefords North Stars, and they decided to go with Carrot River’s own, Caden Drury. In 31 games with the Northeast Wolfpack this year, the defenceman had 19 goals and 34 assists.

Round Five – 55th Overall – Kalem Parker (Clavet, Sask.)

The Flin Flon Bombers took their second North Central player in the fifth round of the draft, taking Kalem Parker, a defenceman who played with the Martensville Marauders in the SBAAHL. He notched six goals and 30 assists in 30 games. He also notched two points in his one game with Martensville’s Midget AA team. The Victoria Royals used a seconds round pick on him in the WHL Draft.

Round Six – 69th Overall – Ty Sundholm (Drake, Sask.)

The last local taken in the 2019 SJHL Bantam Draft was taken by the Nipawin Hawks. Forward Ty Sundholm was taken by Nipawin after a season that saw him score 15 goals and add 17 assists with the Humboldt Broncos Bantam AA team. He also joined the Broncos Midget AA team for six games where he scored twice.
