Broncos acquire Damon Byers from QJAAA

Jun 23, 2022 | 10:49 AM

The Humboldt Broncos have added a veteran presence to roam the blue line for next season.

The team has acquired Damon Byers from the Everest Cote-Du-Sud of the QJAAA, completing a future consideration stemming from a prior trade in 2021.

The 2002-born defenseman was a part of the 2022 Estevan Bruins Canalta Cup Championship team and appeared in three Centennial Cup games where he potted one assist. Following the Centennial Cup, his rights were sent to Everest where they were then sent to Humboldt, having never played a game for the QJAAA club.

The Edson, AB product split the 2022/23 season between the Melfort Mustangs and Estevan, netting 12 points in 29 games.

“It’s always great to add a player with a winning pedigree and mentality, and Damon has that after winning the championships this past year,” said Broncos Head Coach and GM, Scott Barney. “We’re excited to have him on our blue line and look forward to him bringing his abilities and veteran leadership to our lineup.”

Byers has appeared in 108 games in his junior career with time spent in the AJHL, NAHL, and SJHL.
