Rose Marie Andruchow (nee Duesener) was born August 16, 1931 on the farm at Muenster, SK where she resided with her parents Heinrich and Theofrieda Duesener (nee Menz). Rose Marie passed away July 10, 2022 at the Parkland Place Care Home where she was a resident for 3 and a half years.
In 1962, the family decided to move to Melfort from the homestead which was sold. They bought a house in Melfort, SK on Osborn Street. Rose Marie worked as a cook in in 1963 at the “Flamingo Café”, then two years at the “Town and Country Restaurant” located at Junction 6 and 3 where “Crossroads” is today. She applied to house keeping at the Melfort Union Hospital and was accepted. In 1967 she decided to help in the hospital kitchen as a helper and study for her journeyman papers. Rose Marie wrote her exam in 1970 and was overjoyed to receive her Certificate as a cook. In 1974 there was an opening for a cook at Pioneer Lodge so she decided to grab it. Rose was there for 2 years for she had met a cattle and grain farmer from Hilliard, AB. They were married August 28, 1976 at the Ukrainian Church on Second Avenue South in Melfort. She sold her house and moved to Hilliard, AB back to the life she was accustomed to and grew up with. She loved working outdoors and worked like a farmer helping Peter. She loved cooking, gardening, baking, canning, going to Bingo, dancing, listening to music and travelling. She stayed in touch with her siblings back in Saskatchewan and worried about them and their families since they had no children of their own. They took many bus trips including taking Peter to Europe to meet relatives and travel.
After Peter passed away in 2010, Rose then (at the age of 79), decided to move back to Saskatchewan where all of her siblings resided. The farm was sold and she bought a house at Vanier Place and enjoyed it until she became a resident at Parkland Place in December of 2018. She attended Our Lady of Consolation Roman Catholic Church again when back in Melfort.
Rose is survived by her three siblings: John (Shirley) of Tisdale, SK., Frank (Nancy) of White Horse, Yukon, Catherine Knoop of Melfort, SK.; sisters-in-law: Linda Duesener and Sophie Seneick; aunt Gisela Menz of Langenbieber, Germany, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family members throughout the four Western provinces and many cousins and friends in Germany.
Rose Marie was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Peter; her parents Heinrich (Theofrieda) Duesener; twin sister Anna Marie Taphorn; brother Henry; niece Ursula Knoop; nephews: Stephen Duesener, Merle Goeson, Donald Taphorn; brothers-in-law: Paul Taphorn, Hans Knoop, Mike Seneick, Frank Andruchow; parents-in-law Thomas (Annie) Andruchow and many uncles, aunts and cousins in Europe and Canada.
