The Melfort Mustangs have made some more off-season moves as they continue to bolster its roster ahead of the 2022/23 season.

In a trade with the Grand Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), the Mustangs are sending away a Player Development Fee (PDF), in exchange for 2004-born defenceman, Brett Ward.

Ward, a 6’5” 170lbs rookie, played in a total of 20 games for the Storm in the 2021/22 season. In those games, he posted one assist and 10 penalty minutes.

“Brett is a big, strong defender that uses his size well in battles, while his solid skating ability helps him move pucks out of his own zone,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins, in a press release sent to northeastNOW.

“Brett already has valuable Junior experience and we believe he will continue to improve and thrive in our league.”

The Spruce Grove, Alberta product has also played with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers U18 AAA club, playing in four games in the 2020/21 COVID shortened season, adding one assist.
