The Melfort Mustangs have completed a trade with the Canmore Eagles of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).

Melfort has acquired 2002-born forward Braden Plaschewsky in exchange for a player development fee (PDF).

Plaschewsky, a product of Calgary, Alta., spent most of last season with the Eagles, playing in 44 regular season games, scoring seven goals and adding four assists for 11 points.

The 6-2, 205 lb forward really hit his stride in the 2022 AJHL playoffs with Canmore, scoring three goals and adding six assists in 11 games. That was good for a tie for third on the team during their post-season run.

The junior hockey veteran also has prior experience in the Western Hockey League (WHL), having suited up for 11 games with the Spokane Chiefs last year, scoring one goal.

“Braden will definitely bring a veteran presence to our lineup,” said Mustangs head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins, in a press release sent to northeastNOW. “His experience in the WHL will be a huge asset for our club and he will play a key role in our forward group.”

Plaschewsky also previously spent two full seasons with the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL, playing in a total of 86 games, tallying five assists.

He was the 31st overall pick by the organization, back in the 2017 WHL Draft.
