The Melfort Mustangs have acquired 2003-born forward Tye Evans and a Player Development Fee (PDF) from the La Ronge Ice Wolves in exchange for 2002-born forward Trenton Curtis.

Evans re-joins the Mustangs after starting the 2021/2022 season with said organization.

“Tye is a dynamic player that competes hard in all three zones,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins, in a press release sent to northeastNOW. “He will add another element of offence to our forward group.”

Evans scored two goals and added an assist in 13 games for Melfort before being traded to La Ronge in November.

After arriving in La Ronge, he had nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points in 33 games the rest of the way. He added three more assists in six playoff games as well. In five games to start this season, Evans has four assists.

Curtis joined the Mustangs prior to the 2021/2022 season after playing the 2020/2021 season with Olds in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL.)

Last year, Curtis had 12 goals and 29 assists for 41 points in 46 games for Melfort and also played in two playoff games.

To begin the 2022/2023 season, Curtis has been held pointless through four games.

The club added, “they would like to welcome Tye back to Melfort and would also like to thank Trenton for his time as a Mustang and wish him all the best.”
