David Cairns McDermid was born on October 8, 1958, in Prince Albert, SK. He passed away peacefully on September 27, 2022, at the age of 63.
Dave will be missed by his children Jennine McDermid (Kyle Penner) and Ashley McDermid (Brett Weed); his partner Rosalie King; his siblings Louise (Lyle) Tarasiuk, Sandi (Doug) Boyd, Valerie (Pat) Terry, and Robert (Tracy) McDermid; many nieces, nephews, and other family, and dear friends.
Dave was predeceased by his son, Matthew, and his daughter, Nicole; his parents Cal and Ruth McDermid; and his siblings Harold and Nancy.
Dave attended Osborne School near Prince Albert until 1973 when the family moved to Melfort to manage, and eventually purchase, the ambulance business. After his father’s sudden death in 1976, Dave left school to help his mother manage and operate the business. He later returned to school to earn his GED. He worked alongside his mother in the ambulance service for many years until 1994, when he purchased the business from his mother when she retired. He and Debbi ran the business until 2001.
After his many years in the ambulance service, Dave went on to work at Thompson Meats for several years before starting work at Aramark Remote Services in 2006. There he worked on camp set-up crews and eventually camp maintenance in northern Alberta. In 2016, after many years on the road, Dave decided to be closer to home and began working at Rona in Prince Albert in appliance sales.
Dave married Debbi Naber in 1981. Together they had 4 children: Matthew, Jennine, Ashley, and Nicole. Dave loved being a father and adored watching his children grow up. He especially treasured the holidays and vacationing with the family at Candle and Struthers Lake.
He later met his partner, Rosalie King, in 2009 while working in northern Alberta. They shared many happy memories during their years together and enjoyed lake living at Struthers Lake.
Dave loved nature and the outdoors. He cherished fishing and spending time on the lake with family and friends in his beloved boat. Dave also enjoyed carpentry projects and developed a love of cooking, baking, and gardening in his later years.
