Melfort adds forward depth among recent injuries upfront

Oct 6, 2022 | 3:14 PM

The Melfort Mustangs have added 2004-born forward Alex Mack, via the trade.

This comes after Melfort played their last game without their top line of Ben Tkachuk, Clarke Huxley, and Aidyn Hutchinson, all of whom are currently dealing with the injury bug.

The acquisition is in exchange for a Player Development Fee, which will be sent to the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).

The Edmonton, Alta., product spent last season at home with the South Side Athletic Club’s U18 AAA team.

Mack scored 24 goals and added 12 assists in that time, good for 36 points in 34 games.

His 24 goals were tied for first on the team and tied for second in the entire Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL), while his 36 points were good for the third spot on the team, and tied for 16th in the league.

“Alex is a player with high-end skill and goal-scoring ability. He showed that in U18 AAA, ranking second in the league in goals,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins, in a press release sent to northeastNOW “We’re excited to see what he can do in our forward group.”

Before puck drop last season, Mack signed a Western Hockey League(WHL) Standard Player Agreement with the Prince Albert Raiders where he played two games last year.

Meanwhile, in three games played with the Thunder this season, he has been held off the scoresheet.
