MP Block named to Poilievre’s Conservative Shadow Cabinet

The member of parliament (MP) for Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek has been named to the Conservative Party of Canada’s (CPC) latest shadow cabinet.

Kelly Block was chosen by Pierre Poilievre, who was voted in as CPC leader in September, to serve as the Shadow Minister for Public Services and Procurement.

This isn’t a new role for her as she previously held this position from 2019 to 2020 under then CPC leader Erin O’Toole.

Block told northeastNOW her main job will be holding the government and the current Minister of Public Services and Procurement, Helena Jaczek, to account.

“When it comes to how they are spending taxpayers’ money when it comes to procurement,” she said.

She also explained the main issues she’ll be focusing on will most likely be a lot different than before as the COVID-19 pandemic had started under her last term as shadow minister.

Meanwhile, Block is one of 10 Saskatchewan MPs chosen by Poilievre to be either a shadow minister or associate shadow minister. The province has 14 MPs.

“I think it speaks to the great work that each one of them has done as a member of parliament,” she added.

Gary Vidal, the MP for Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River, was the only other one to be named a shadow minister. He was chosen to oversee Indigenous Services.

The other eight MPS, Rosemarie Falk, Randy Hoback, Robert Kitchen, Brad Redekopp, Warren Steinley, Corey Tochor, Fraser Tolmie, and Kevin Waugh, will serve as associate shadow ministers.
