Sherwood Division Battle

Mustangs welcome Bombers in lone game of the week

Nov 2, 2022 | 8:45 AM

The Melfort Mustangs will only be on the ice in game action once this week with a mid-week duel with the Flin Flon Bombers on the horizon.

The Mustangs will host their Sherwood Division rivals on Wednesday night at the Northern Lights Palace.

It’ll be the first time the two teams have met since the opening night of the SJHL regular season which was a 2-0 loss for the Mustangs in Flin Flon at the Whitney Forum. Mustangs defenceman Leyton Holoien said they should take that game with a grain of salt as the teams have changed a lot since Sept. 16.

“I think we as a group have improved a lot since then,” he said.

Melfort is currently coming off a 4-1 loss at the hands of the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Saturday night. It was a loss that also broke the Mustangs three-game win streak.

“La Ronge didn’t quite go our way, but it’s only one game,” Holoien said. “So we will be rested up for Wednesday.”

Melfort is currently 7-7-4-0 on the year, while Flin Flon is 11-3-1-1 and have won three straight games.

Game time at the Palace on Wednesday is 7:30 p.m.
