Mustangs and Broncos set for heated battle in Humboldt

Nov 19, 2022 | 12:00 PM

Battle number three of the SJHL’s horses is set for Saturday night in Humboldt as the Melfort Mustangs visit the Broncos.

For the Mustangs, they’ll be looking to continue their hot stretch as they’ve won three in a row since their nine-day break at the beginning of the month.

“It’s good for us mentally and physically to kind of rest up and reset,” said Mustangs Assistant Captain Dawson Leroux. “And we’ve kind of flipped a switch and turned a page, and we’ve been doing pretty good so far.”

During their three-game streak, Melfort has allowed just four goals while scoring a total of 16.

The last time these two rivals met, Humboldt took both games and was in the midst of starting the season 8-0. Leroux said it won’t be difficult to get up for this game.

“There’s definitely a rivalry between our two teams, and it’s two good squads going at each other,” he said. “So it’s an exciting one.”

Since starting the season 8-0, the Broncos are 7-6-0-0, but are still second in the Global Ag Risk Division and are tied for third in the SJHL.

Melfort is 10-8-4-0 which puts them third in the Sherwood Division, and sixth in the SJHL.

Game time on Saturday is 7:30 p.m. and you can hear all the action on 105 CJVR.
