Mustangs looking to get back into win column with road game against Hounds

Jan 17, 2023 | 10:52 AM

The Melfort Mustangs remain in the thick of things in the SJHL standings, and every point gets more and more important as the season progresses.

The sixth place Mustangs are three points back of fifth place La Ronge, and fourth Humboldt, and are coming off a series split with the Humboldt Broncos this past weekend.

It started out fantastic with an 8-4 win on Friday, but ended with a 6-2 loss on Saturday in Humboldt. Mustangs forward Zac Somers said they need to forget about what happened on Saturday and focus on what’s ahead of them.

“That leaves a tough feeling in your gut,” Somers said. “But you’ve just got to bounce back, put that one behind us.”

Melfort will now head to Wilcox on Tuesday night for a meeting with the Notre Dame Hounds.

Somers added that it’s nice to be able to get into another game just a few days after instead of having to wait nearly another week for game action.

“Get right back at it, that’s good for us,” he said. “Instead of having that full week of practice, just get another one under our belt and get a step in the right direction.”

Melfort has beaten Notre Dame in two of three meetings, although the lone loss for the Mustangs came in Notre Dame back in early October.

You can catch all the action on Tuesday on 105 CJVR with the pregame show at 7:45 p.m.
