Sask. RCMP identifies human remains found near Watrous in 2021

May 18, 2023 | 12:10 PM

Saskatchewan RCMP have identified the human remains that were found near Watrous.

Officers received a report of human remains located in the RM of Morris back in February 2021.

Since then, a joint effort between Saskatchewan RCMP’s Forensic Identification Services, Police Dog Services, the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, and a forensic anthropologist had led investigators through a long process of identifying who the remains belong to.

In March 2022, DNA analysis helped lead investigators to the relatives of the person who were located near Red Deer, Alberta.

Upon further investigation, they discovered the remains likely belonged to a woman in the area.

In January 2023, RCMP Forensic Identification Services determined the remains to be 27-year-old Kassandra Jorquera. It was found that she had never been reported missing and was last seen in January 2021.

The circumstances surrounding her death are considered suspicious.

She was known to frequent the Red Deer area as well as Grande Prairie periodically but her connection to Saskatchewan is unknown.

Jorquera was approximately 5’5″ and 110 lbs. She had shoulder-length dark brown hair and brown eyes.

As the RCMP continue to retrace Jorquera’s steps in putting together a picture of what happened, they are asking anyone with information to contact Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
