Sask. brings home four medals after Day One of competition at North American Indigenous Games

Saskatchewan has claimed four medals after day one of the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in Halifax.

All four of those medals came in the women’s canoe/kayak events, including a gold for Elena Deschambeault in the 3,000-metre MC1 19U female event.

Summer Dusterbeck of Pelican Narrows claimed silver in the 3,000-metre MC1 14U female race with Elia Bolme winning silver in the 19U 3000-metre kayak event.

The bronze medal of the day went to Julianna Reimer-Marion in the K1 3,000-metre 14U female event.

The Saskatchewan Box Lacrosse teams were also in action on Monday as the 16U male team fell 9-7 to B.C. while the 19U female team is 1-1 after a loss to Alberta and a win against Manitoba. The 19U male team lost both opening games to Alberta and Manitoba.

Several players from the Prince Albert area and Île-à-la-Crosse are part of the Lacrosse teams.

The NAIG continue Tuesday with events in 14 sports on day two of competition.
