Orvel was born February 8, 1946 at home to parents Helmert and Gladys (Haroldson) Skiftun of the Brockington area.  He attended a one room school (Pine Bluff) until grade 8 and then continued his education in Kinistino, SK.

In 1965, he along with his parents moved to Melfort.  In 1966 he became employed by the town of Melfort, which led to a 45 year career.  Orvel retired from the City of Melfort in 2011.  It was also in 1966 that he met his life long partner and best friend, Colette Hill.  They were married on September 18, 1971 and to this union two sons were born; Corey on October 4, 1973 and Aaron on June 27, 1976. Orvel passed away May 27, 2023 at the age of 77 years.

Orvel is survived by his wife Colette, sons: Corey (Nicole) and their children Callie and Sydnee; Aaron (Roberta) and their son Aiden.  Also surviving him are his brother Vernon; sisters-in-law: Beatrice Skiftun, Lorraine Hill and Kathy Hill; Gerry (Gayle) Dammann; sisters-in-law: Joanne (Bob) Williams, Shelley (Emile) Daoust and many nieces and nephews.

Orvel is predeceased by his parents: Helmert and Gladys; mother and father-in-law: Cliff and Irene Hill; brothers: Milen, Harlen (Lorraine), Lawrence, Lyle (Frances); sisters: Viola (Alec) Prokopow and Florence (Cecil) Hartt; sisters-in-law: Sandra Skiftun and Darlene (Hill) Dammann and brothers-in-law: Don Hill and Stan Hill.

A Memorial Come & Go for Orvel will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Melfort Royal Canadian Legion (101 McLeod Ave E,  Melfort, SK).  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to STARS.
