CELEBRATING MULTICULTURALISM

New faces and returning acts set to grace the stage at Tapestrama

The organizers of Prince Albert’s biggest cultural festival are hoping for a greater turnout this year than in 2022.

On Sept. 23 and 24, the Tapestrama Cultural Festival returns to the city and will take place inside the Carlton High School Cafetorium.

Dozens of performers including the Barveenok Ukrainian Dancers are returning this year while other acts like a World Fashion Show are making their debut.

Also coming to the festival is the Oral Fuentes Reggae Band who was supposed to perform at the Canada Day festivities but high winds that day cancelled the performance.

According to Sylvie Charpentier with the Prince Albert Multicultural Council, last year saw roughly 2,000 people come to the event and they’re hoping for more this year.

However, she acknowledged that in the past few years, they haven’t seen as many people as they did before COVID-19.

“Often, it’s because of the weather. If it’s too nice, people are at the lakes and they’re not coming to the festival, if it’s raining then people won’t go out. There’s a lot of factors and we don’t really know how many people will come.”

Sylvie added that regardless of the turnout they are very excited to host the event again this year, given the amount of preparation it’s taken.

“Since Canada Day was over, we started right away with Tapestrama.”

The festival runs from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
