The Lions Club has made its triumphant return to Humboldt

After many years of being in the dark, the Lions are making their way back to a northeast Saskatchewan community.

Plans have been in the works for some time and recently, the Humboldt Lions Club returned to the city with a goal of serving their fellow community members any way they can.

As secretary of the club, Larry Jorgenson, explained, it was another nearby organization that gave them the kick in the but to get going again.

“We were approached by the Lake Lenore Lions Club earlier this spring and they were very interested in getting Lions back,” he said.

The local club is scheduled to have a launch event on Nov. 4, known as the Charter Launch Gala. Jorgenson said they’ve already had a few small meetings and a full-time space made possible by the Community Gathering Place on Sixth Ave.

Roughly 40 members have already committed to getting the club rolling, now they’ll have to see what local projects they can get behind.

“The Lions have some pretty good templates of the type of project work that we’re kind of expected to try to do,” said Jorgenson. “It’s kind of up to each individual community to find out what their community needs and go from there.”

To date, Jorgenson said they’ve been involved in a few fundraising initiatives like a PBR Bull Riding Event that was held in Humboldt earlier this year, where members ran the bar.

As for what the future looks like for projects, Jorgenson said they are keeping their eyes wide open.

“Maybe there’s some new facility or something that needs to be built and they need X millions of dollars. Maybe we can help them raise a small portion of those funds for some specific purpose,” he said. “So, I’m sure there’ll be no shortage of projects that we can throw our name behind.”
