Construction within sight for new animal shelter in Melfort
There could be some building activity happening soon in a large, grassy field on the northwest end of Melfort.
Crews have marked off the construction lines for the future home of the Northeast SPCA Harry and Eve Vickar shelter. Board Chairperson Pat Schiels told northeastNOW it’s very exciting to see the project come to fruition.
“I think when we first started fundraising we thought the money would come so easy, but we found it’s really tough to raise that much money,” she said.
The committee initially set a goal in 2013 to raise $250,000 but faced with higher costs, raised their projection to $500,000. As of this week they have raised just over $435,000.
