Helen Melvin passed away while surrounded by her family on October 14, 2023 at the age of 87 years.  She was born on the family homestead in the Connell Creek area to Jack and Katie Bernesky.  She was one of fifteen children who grew up on the farm where she learned the value of a dollar and hard work, as well as an appreciation for getting what you want in life.

She loved family, friends and gardening. She will  always be remembered for her weedless garden and  beautiful yard.  At anytime she would share any of her       vegetables with those who would enjoy them.

Helen is survived by her loving son John (Dawn); her 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.  She will also be cherished by her companion Harvey Nielsen and his daughter Heather; her niece Kim (Ken); her friend Gail; her sister Hilda and her brother Larry.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Harvey Melvin; her precious daughters: Sherry and Gwen; her  parents Jack and Katie; 12 siblings and her first husband Ray Barks.

Helen’s funeral service was held from Fedusiak Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Gladys Court officiating.  The interment followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society, or to the Canadian Kidney Association.
