North Battleford Comprehensive defeats St. Mary to win inaugural NSFL title
With less than two minutes to go, a hazy sun peered through the clouds and in what seemed like a moment of destiny, the North Battleford Comprehensive High School (NBCHS) came out the victors on the home gridiron with a 35-21 win over Prince Albert’s St. Mary’s Marauders.
“Very happy for the Grade 12s right now, the new first year of this new league and our goal is to play in some home playoff games and we did, so we’re extremely happy the way shook down today,” said Vikings Head Coach Mike Humenny.
The North Saskatchewan Football League (NSFL) saw the teams in its inaugural championship matchup fighting it down to the whistle, but St. Mary’s Head Coach Curt Hundeby acknowledge his team, who battled hard just couldn’t match their opponents’ strength.
“Anytime it’s your last game, it’s tough,” he said.
