Hawks begin parent-billet weekend at home against Yorkton
It’s the parent-billet weekend for the Nipawin Hawks, as the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) club will host the Yorkton Terriers and Melfort Mustangs at the Centennial Arena.
The Hawks come into the weekend on a high after winning an emotionally charged game over Melville on Tuesday at the ‘Cage.’ Head Coach Tad Kozun said this week’s win over the Millionaires was important, but the 4-2 win was just one game.
“It was an intense hockey game, and it was a game we were excited to watch our guys play too,” Kozun said Friday morning. “We got to see some stuff we haven’t seen all year, but now we just have to make sure we keep building on it.”
The win pushed the Hawks’ record to a game under the .500 winning percentage mark and snapped a three-game losing streak. Nipawin hasn’t won more than two games in a row yet this SJHL season, the slide was their longest stretch without a win. Kozun said he hopes his team can manufacture a winning streak.
