More opportunities for flu shots this week

Nov 6, 2017 | 11:00 AM

The Kelsey Trail Health Region (KTHR) will continue to offer influenza vaccinations this week in the Northeast area.

The most recommended age groups are children aged six months to five years old as well as people 65 and over. Children up to the age of nine receiving their first shot will require the second dosage four weeks following. Babies under six months are not able to be vaccinated.

Health experts urge people with chronic conditions such as lung or heart disease, cancer, kidney disease or those who live with severe obesity to receive the vaccination as well. Pregnant women are encouraged to get immunized, too.

Today, a clinic is being held in Naicam from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m at the senior centre. A clinic is slated for Nipawin, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m also on Monday at the senior hall.

Two clinics will take place Tuesday, one in Lintlaw at the senior’s centre for an hour starting at 10 a.m. The other is between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Rose Valley Manor.

Wednesday features a trio of vaccination clinics, at Melfort’s Diefenbaker Place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at Caskey Place in Melfort from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The other is in Tisdale at the RECplex from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The KTHR will conclude the week’s clinics with two more on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Mistatim at the Goldenrods Club. Bjorkdale’s clinic will run from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Bjorkdale School.

Frequent hand washing, cleaning surfaces often and staying home from work while sick are important steps to stay healthy through the flu season along with a vaccination.

Flu shots are free through the Ministry of Health.
