Nipawin business plans to offer community new flavour

Nov 12, 2017 | 4:20 PM

The Town of Nipawin was recently recognized as being one of Western Canada’s most charming communities and the choice of restaurants was listed as one of the reasons why.

Within the next couple of months, a new restaurant is hoping to add more charm to the town.

The Dam Smokehouse will include a menu of ribs, biscuits, smoked turkey and sausage.

Owner Faron Saufert, who has lived in the Tisdale area the past six years, said he wanted to try something new.

“I’ve been in agriculture 20 years and I just decided its time to start doing something differently and thought…why not do something a guy is really happy at,” he said.

The restaurant will be run by Saufert and his wife who has restaurant experience. Saufert’s 18-year-old step daughter will also help out.

“My wife and I have been passionate about the restaurant industry for as long as I can remember and basically woke up one day and said ‘I’m tired of working for someone else’ and started working for ourselves,’” he said.

Saufert said he was hoping to open the restaurant later this month but admits he was a bit naive when it came to how rules and regulations worked.

“We are hoping to open up before Christmas yet…but we are not gonna open until we are absolutely ready,” he said.

The restaurant will be located at 206 First Ave. W.
