Big name stores coming to Tisdale

Nov 14, 2017 | 3:35 PM

Three large retail type businesses are close to opening in Tisdale.

Buy-Low Foods will celebrate its grand opening on Dec. 1. A Tim Hortons and Sobeys liquor store will open before Christmas.

Developing the community as a Northeast hub is the goal, director of economic development Sean Wallace said.

“If you need to go to Saskatoon or anywhere [from the Northeast] you basically must drive through Tisdale to get there,” he said.

The franchises are being built along the junction of Highways 3 and 35 — an enticing location for consumers, Wallace said.

“We’ve identified that that’s a high traffic intersection and that’s where people want to be,” he said. “People in town are looking forward to the competition that more retail will create. Everyone is looking for a deal.”

Approximately 140 jobs will be created between the trio of businesses, Wallace said they have adequate housing for people coming to the town, but added there is potential for a future developer to prosper.

“I think we could use another apartment building in town, I think that would be an excellent opportunity for a developer,” he said.
