Appeals heard in murder conspiracy case

Dec 16, 2017 | 10:00 AM

Appeals were heard yesterday in Regina for two lovers convicted of conspiring to kill their spouses.

Curtis Vey of Wakaw and Angela Nicholson of Melfort were found guilty of two counts each of conspiracy to commit murder after a 2016 trial at Prince Albert’s Court of Queen’s Bench. Vey received a sentence of three years less three months, while Nicholson was sentenced to three years less two months.

At the trial, a recording made by Vey’s spouse implicated the couple in a plan to drug their spouses and kill them in house fires. The jury deliberated for nearly 30 hours before reaching their guilty verdict.

Vey and Nicholson appealed their convictions separately, and both matters were heard Friday by the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal. Court employees confirmed the decisions were reserved in both cases, and it will likely be several weeks before they are released to the public.
