Lakeland fired up for Sask Winter Games

Feb 14, 2018 | 9:00 AM

Team Lakeland will be sending 200 athletes, coaches, manager and mission staff to the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford Feb. 18-24.

Many of them gathered at the Ches Leach Lounge for a pep rally on Saturday leading into the event.

“Everybody is important, everybody will play a role but at the end of the day, we’re competing as Team Lakeland,” Lakeland’s chef de mission and executive director Lyle Campbell said. “Hopefully events like today will drive that home as well.

“Leading up to this, the athletes for the most part have only been involved in their own sport be it the selection process or the practices. Then they get here with a couple hundred others and all of a sudden it’s ‘oh, this is something bigger than I thought it was.’ Then they get to the winter games, that’s a whole other experience.”
