Don’t feed the deer in Candle Lake: Conservation Officers

Mar 8, 2018 | 7:00 AM

A disturbing discovery in the Candle Lake area has prompted Saskatchewan’s Environment Ministry to remind home owners not to feed the wildlife.

Conservation Officers recently came across a dead deer that displayed signs of grain overload. Officer Kevin Harrison said deer are unable to digest these grains.

“Literally they can starve to death with a full stomach, without getting the proper nutrients they need,” he said.

Harrison said he often hears locals are feeding the “cute” animals to keep them close by because they are fun to look at. Although the animals may be adorable, Harrison said feeding them can end up being fatal.
