Second Rexall Pharmacy opens in Melfort

Mar 8, 2018 | 4:00 PM

Almost all of Melfort’s doctors are working under roof. Now a pharmacy in the Wellness Centre is going to assist patients and health professionals.

The Wellness Centre celebrated its grand opening in December and now the Rexall Pharmacy is open as well. Manager Sonia Skjerpen said the drug store is looking forward to assist in streamlining resources.

“We recognize the importance of healthcare professionals working collaboratively. Not only can it provide patients with better health outcomes, but it is also very convenient for patients as they can stop in right after their appointment and pick up their prescriptions or any other products suggested by their doctor,” Skjerpen said.

The store offers the basics from healthcare products, hygiene products, snack foods and drinks, a small section of household supplies and some basic grocery items combined with a full-service pharmacy. Skjerpen says the pharmaceutical staff can assist with more than filling prescriptions.

“We can prescribe for a minor ailment such as diaper rash or cold sores, counsel patients that want to quit smoking. We can help manage chronic conditions, monitor your blood pressure, conduct a medication review and we can renew or extend your prescriptions,” she said.

The store also offers delivery of prescriptions and can administer flu shots.

The store employs two pharmacists, a front of store manager and one part-time clerk. The Rexall store in the Melfort Mall will remain open and operate as it has, however the stores’ systems are not linked due to confidentiality reasons. Customers will need to provide information to fill prescriptions even though their name may be on file at the mall location.
