Mar 16, 2018 | 12:14 PM

UPDATE: The 14-year-old youth who allegedly brought a knife to Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate made his first court appearance this morning.

The boy appeared in Melfort Provincial Court today, accompanied by family members. The appearance was brief, however, as the matter was adjourned until April 10. The youth is not currently held in custody.

The youth is facing a charge of assault with a weapon, RCMP said, after he allegedly brought a knife to the school March 8, one of two recent incidents at MUCC. The 16-year-old youth charged with uttering threats in connection with the other incident is set to make his next appearance April 24.

A pair of incidents at Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate have led to charges against a pair of youths.

According to RCMP, a 16-year-old boy threatened to commit a shooting at the school Feb. 2. He has since been charged with two counts of uttering threats, and will be appearing in Melfort Provincial Court March 24.

Melfort RCMP said a 14-year-old boy was charged with assault with a weapon after bringing a knife to the high school during the second incident March 8, which resulted in minor injuries. He is scheduled to appear in court March 20.

The RCMP said they are working with school staff and the North East School Division on preventative measures through their Violence/Threat Risk Assessment Program. Neither alleged offender is currently attending the high school. Due to their ages, their names cannot be published.
