Sask. cousins write song as tribute to Broncos after crash

Two Saskatchewan cousins are rallying behind those affected by the Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy by writing a tribute song.

Tamara McDougall and Keelin Covlin, from the Pilot Butte area, make up the musical group Emerald Greene Duo.

“There’s not really anything anybody can do but this is what we do. We decided (the song) needed to happen, we sat down (Saturday) and wrote this little tribute,” McDougall said.

The two hope the song is something people can relate to.

“I know that, from experience, it’s not anything you’re able to relate to when you lose someone or almost lose someone that’s close to you but having something to relate to like music or this song, kind of makes it easier,” McDougall explained.

She said it took a few takes to get the song recorded because of how emotional it got.

“You do a line and kind of break down and restart, it did take awhile,” McDougall said.

She said the community response to their song has been great.

“There’s lots of shares on it and tons of reposts and views, I think just because it is relatable to the experience,” McDougall continued.

“I think it’s important to keep your head up and keep praying because there’s nothing you can do yourself.”
