New Co-op Food Store taking shape in Tisdale

Apr 25, 2018 | 3:00 PM

The new Co-op food store in Tisdale is taking shape, and plans for a grand opening in the late fall are on track.

Beeland Co-op started work on a new food store in the community last fall. Co-op Manager Todd Svenson said the new store will be located on the site of the former Tisdale Mall, near the new Sobey’s liquor store and Tim Horton’s. The new facility will replace the current food store in downtown Tisdale.

Svenson said the new location will have more customer parking and will include a pharmacy as well. Svenson said the Beeland Co-op got out of the pharmacy business in 2000, but now the timing is right to re-enter the market. The Co-op hardware and administration departments will not be part of the new Co-op food store, Svenson noted.

Svenson said the current food store was built in 1981 in downtown Tisdale, but it does not have enough parking for customers anymore.

“It was either do a major renovation to the old store or look at something new,” Svenson said.

With about three times the number of parking spaces and a more open design in store, Svenson said the new Beeland Co-op Food Store will provide customers with a better shopping experience.

“This will give us now a really nice footprint to work with, and be much more convenient for shoppers,” he added.

Svenson said the Co-op has received an offer to purchase the former food store building once it becomes vacant.
