Nipawin company fined for workplace violations

May 15, 2018 | 5:00 PM

A Nipawin company has been fined for workplace violations under the province’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Ridgewood Ranch Inc., which operates as Ridgewood Construction, was fined $2,500 in Swift Current Provincial Court May 9, plus a $1,000 surcharge. Three other charges were withdrawn.

The Saskatchewan Government said the charges against Ridgewood stemmed from a worksite inspection March 29, 2016 near Val Marie. An occupational health officer noted workers at the site were not using a guardrail, life jacket, or full-body harness with a lifeline or net while working near water. The province said the company did not comply with a notice of contravention that was issued previously.

This is the second time this spring the company has been fined for violations. The province issued a release last month announcing fines against Ridgewood Construction under the Saskatchewan Employment Act relating to unpaid wages.
