Husky Midstream to provide update on Sask. pipeline project

May 31, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Another round of open houses are scheduled regarding Husky Midstream’s plans to build two pipelines in west-central Saskatchewan.

The pipelines which will run from east of Lloydminster to west of Turtleford will carry crude oil and condensate. Media spokesperson Kim Guttormson told paNOW they hope to get started as soon as possible.

“Pending regulatory approvals, the pipeline would take about 10 months to complete,” she said.

Husky Midstream has spent over $20 million in clean-up efforts following a 2016 oil spill, which impacted the cities of North Battleford, Prince Albert and Melfort. Guttormson said the company wants to stay open with the public.

“On this project, we began engaging communities, both Indigenous and municipalities, last fall before we held open houses in November, and we continue to keep them informed,” she said.

The open houses in November were held in Maidstone and Lloydminster. On June 12, representatives from the company will be in Melfort at the legion hall, followed by Prince Albert June 13 at East End Community Hall and North Battleford June 14 at the legion hall.  All the meetings are scheduled to run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Guttormson said representatives from Safety, Environment, Facility Construction, Surface Land, Regulatory, Engineering, Operations and the Business Unit will be available at the public meetings to provide information on the project and answer questions.
