Slower year for construction in Melfort

Building construction continues to limp along this year in Melfort, according to the latest building permits report.
 
For the month of May, there were a total of nine permits issued compared to 22 for the same month last year. The big difference was the number of residential permits issued. There were 18 issued in May of last year compared to only seven this year.
 
Overall there have been 23 permits issued this year, compared to 39 for the same time period last year. The total value in permits has dropped year-over-year from just over $5.8 million in 2017 to just over $3 million so far this year. The one highlight this year has been an instuitutional permit for $700,000.
 
The report will be submited to council Monday night.
