Jul 6, 2018 | 11:36 AM

UPDATE: Police have arrested the semi-truck driver involved in the Broncos crash. He now faces a total of 29 criminal charges.

Jaskirat Sidhu was arrested at his home in Calgary this morning and charged with 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death and 13 charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, RCMP said at a press conference.

Dangerous driving causing death carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison, while dangerous driving causing bodily harm carries a maximum of 10 years.

Sidhu, 29, remains in police custody, RCMP said. He is set to appear in Saskatchewan Provincial Court next week.

The crash, which happened three months ago today, claimed the lives of 16 Humboldt Broncos players and staff members and left 13 others injured. The team was en route to Nipawin for a playoff game when the crash occurred.

RCMP officially laid the charges yesterday and met with the families of those involved with the crash this morning to provide an update on the arrest.

Spokespeople for the RCMP are not releasing any information as to what specifically caused the crash as the matter is now before the courts.

The Saskatchewan RCMP have made an arrest and laid charges in connection with the Humboldt Broncos bus collision April 6.

The RCMP made the announcement this morning, though details of the charges and suspect were not released. More details will be announced early this afternoon at a press conference in Regina.

The collision occurred when the Broncos team bus collided with a semi-trailer near Tisdale while the team was en route to a playoff game. The impact left 16 members of the Broncos organization dead and 13 others injured. The driver of the semi, who has not been identified, was uninjured in the incident.

It is unknown whether the driver remains in custody at this time.
