Quebec Revenue Department targets Montreal World Film Festival for unpaid taxes

MONTREAL — The fate of the long-beleaguered Montreal World Film Festival is unclear as Quebec’s Revenue Department targets the event and its founder for unpaid taxes.

Revenu Quebec filed a motion in court on Thursday seeking an injunction to prevent the 42nd edition of the festival from going ahead because Serge Losique owes back taxes.

The festival is scheduled to open Aug. 23 and the court has given Losique until Aug. 1 to pay an initial $32,000.

Losique told the court he would respond to the order by the deadline.
