Chicken strips recalled over contamination concerns

Aug 9, 2018 | 12:30 PM

A recall has been issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency over a popular brand of chicken strips sold across Saskatchewan.

The CFIA has announced a recall of Pinty’s brand Oven Roasted Chicken Breast Strips due to concerns over possible Listeria contamination. The chicken strips are sold refrigerated at grocery stores across Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba and British Columbia. The recall is for the one-kilogram boxes of chicken strips with best before dates of August 9, 2018 and a UPC of 0 69094 62401 1, and boxes with best befre dates of August 15, 2018 with UPC 0 69094 62401 1.

Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the recalled products. The CFIA says the products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were bought.

Although it may not look or smell spoiled, foods contaminated with Listeria can still make you sick, the CFIA says. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women and people with weakened immune symptoms are most at risk.
